Financial Support

We understand that studying at college may cause financial problems and our Student Finance team may be able to help.

We have a Student Finance department that provides both existing and prospective students with advice and guidance in relation to Student Finance, while also providing financial support to students studying at Grantham College.

If you need help filling in a form or just want to chat about the support that we can supply, please come and speak to the Student Finance Officer, located in the IAG area (Main Reception) or call us on 01476 400281.

The different funds available to us, depending on your age and personal circumstances are as follows:

16 – 18 Bursary Fund

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support those young people who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education post-16.

Further Education Free Meals

19+ Further Education Discretionary Support Fund

Students on a low income or who are from low income families can apply to the Discretionary Learner Support fund for financial assistance where there is a genuine financial barrier to participation such as the costs of course fees, registration fees, transport, materials and equipment. Financial assistance towards childcare costs is also available for students aged 20 years old and over.

Advanced Learner Loan

Aged 19+ and applying for a Level 3 or higher level course?

A loan called the Advanced Learner Loan is now available for those aged 19 and over to receive help with the costs of your college tuition fees for Level 3 – Level 6 courses. This is a great way to access courses that previously, for financial reasons, may have been out of your reach!

Childcare Costs Application Form

Childcare for students over the age of 20 at the start of their course. Financial help with your childcare costs for students studying a further education course.

Care to Learn

Childcare for students under the age of 20 at the start of their course. Care to Learn is a Government scheme to provide financial assistance with childcare if you are a young parent, while you’re learning.

Student Travel Fund for those aged 16-18 who live out of the area

We know that it might not be easy for you to get into college especially if you live out of the Grantham area. We want you to know that we are here to provide help and, if you are under 19 at the start of your course, support towards applying for travel assistance from your local council.

If you are aged 16–19 and are in care, a care leaver or receive income support in your own right, you may be entitled to a bursary of up to £1,200 per year. Please let us know if that applies to you as soon as possible!

For further information please contact the Student Finance Officer, on 01476 400281 or jbowman@grantham.ac.uk

Travel Assistance

If you are applying for Further Education programmes, you must firstly apply to your Local Education Authority (LEA) for assistance with travel. If your LEA is unable to help, there may be support available from the college.

Please get in touch with our Student Finance Team to find out how they may be able to help you get to college.
