Free Adult Courses

It can be difficult to get back into education. One thing people find hard is paying for courses. We have a lot of courses with no course fees. Take a look below.

Leisure & Community Learning courses

A lot of our leisure and community courses for adults are totally free. See individual course details for all information.

Anyone under 19 who applies for a CL course is required to pay £5 an hour. Some courses may incur a small charge for materials.

Level 2 courses for people earning up to £20,319

You can choose to study a wide range of full and part-time courses without having to pay any tuition fees.

To be eligible for free adult courses you must:

  • be 19 or older; and
  • unemployed and currently seeking work
  • or, on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum (you will need to provide wage slips or your last self-assessment form to evidence this), and
  • want to study a Pre-Entry, Entry, Level 1 or Level 2 course.

Many courses are also free for people in receipt of certain benefits, including Job Seekers Allowance, Universal Credit and Employment and Support Allowance.

You can choose to study more than one part-time course a year if you want to and it does not matter whether you already have higher qualifications, so long as you are applying to study something different.

Courses are available in a wide range of subjects. Subjects available are:

Accounting

Level 3 courses

Advanced Learning Loan to help with college fees on applicable course. 

Students won’t have to pay anything back until the end of their course and are earning £27,295 per year. Household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. 

Eligibility is dependent on course, nationality, and age to meet the ESFA funding eligibility criteria.

Level 2/3 courses for students aged 19-23

Students enrolling onto their first full Level 2 or Level 3 course or below who are aged between 19 and 23 may be able to enrol for free. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change.

Distance Learning courses

The costs of online distance learning courses at Grantham College are FREE. Although registration and non-completion fees may apply.

Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector specific skills and fast track to an interview with a local employer. These courses are fully funded for learners. 

Maths and English courses

It’s never too late to get your vital English and maths qualifications. We have a large choice of English and maths courses. Functional skills and GCSE maths and English courses are free. We also offer a choice of study options – in a classroom or online.
