Sport

The sport and leisure industry is expanding rapidly and growing in popularity in response to the focus on healthy lifestyles and fitness in society. Hundreds of Initiatives from the Government, Sport England and SKY are driving the upward trend in the sports industry.

We offer a range of Sports courses which are taught by a team who have a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills to pass on to students.

Staff have a wide range of qualifications including Bsc Degrees in Sport and Exercise Science, Doctorate in Sports Coaching, Post-Graduate Certificates in Education, industry specific qualifications in fitness, coaching, nutrition, injury management and psychology. They also possess a wealth of industry experience having worked in a professional environment with elite athletes for a combined 43 years in a variety of sports including football, swimming and athletics to name a few.

The Sports courses are taught in a range of environments, including a dedicated gym and sports hall where you will gain practical and hands-on knowledge of the sector. We have recently extended our area and developed a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning suite including high-tech fitness and performance testing equipment and software. You will also take part in trips, work experience and class tasks to strengthen your skills to famous sporting venues in the local area and across the UK.

The courses on offer will give you the chance to learn more about this fast-growing area.

On successful completion of your course, there will be plenty of opportunities for work in areas such as coaching, fitness or facility management, or to go on to university or continue your studies here at college on the exciting HNC/D Sports Coaching & Sports Development course.

Alongside the qualification there are opportunities to become a member of the Table Tennis Academy

Alongside studying a course at Grantham College you can also be a part of our world-renowned Table Tennis Academy.

Grantham College launched the Table Tennis Academy in September 2002. This initiative, the first in the UK, allows both local, national and international players to take advantage of a variety of specialist training facilities at the college to improve their level of play and help them to reach their full potential within the game.

The college benefits from some fantastic facilities including a large sports hall with specialist flooring, in which the table tennis coaching takes place.

If you apply to the Table Tennis Academy, you must be at least 16 years of age at the start of your course. Your Table Tennis level will be analysed on an individual basis. You will be invited to an interview where you will play in one of the sessions and we will require a reference from your coach so we can ensure we provide you with the best programme for your needs.
