How to secure an Apprenticeship
As an apprentice you will:
- Be an employee earning a wage and getting holiday pay
- Work alongside experienced staff
- Gain job-specific skills
- Get time for training and study related to your role (at least 6 hours per week of your normal working hours)
- Develop your English and maths skills in line with your apprenticeships requirements and personal circumstances
How to Become an Apprentice
It is easy to apply for an apprenticeship with us at Grantham College & University Centre. Follow the below steps as a guide:

Once you have chosen the industry you’d like to work in and the apprenticeship you would like to study, you will then need to apply online. You can apply for an apprenticeship by clicking the ‘Apply for this Course’ button on the individual apprenticeship course information. You then will be guided through the simple application process.
Please note: This stage of becoming an apprentice can be completed with or without an employer, BUT you will need an employer to start your apprenticeship.
You will need an employer, who is willing to offer you an apprenticeship, before you can start your training. Finding a relevant apprenticeship employer is your responsibility, Grantham College & University Centre are here to assist you with this.
Apply for vacancies
Apprenticeship vacancies receive many applications, so it’s important to stand out from the crowd!
When applying for a vacancy, think about how your skills and experience relate to the job and the organisation. It’s always a good idea to secure work experience or do some volunteering to show you are keen, driven and hard-working.

When you’ve found an employer
Once you have successfully been recruited by an employer you will need to let us know that you are ready to begin your apprenticeship programme.
The apprenticeship advisors will help you through that process, they can help your employer too if they haven’t had an apprentice or used us as a training provider before.

Levels of apprenticeship
Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels.
| Level | Equivalent | Educational Level |
| Intermediate | 2 | GCSE |
| Advanced | 3 | A Level |
| Higher | 4, 5, 6, and 7 | Foundation degree and above |
| Degree | 6 and 7 | Bachelor’s or master’s degree |
Some apprenticeships may also give you an additional qualification, such as a diploma.
