Grantham College is trialling a 4-day working week which will run from September 2022 until the end of August 2023. If you wish to participate in the trial, you will benefit from a reduction in working hours but still receive full pay. For a full-time member of staff with a permanent salaried contract for 37 hours per week the working hours will reduce to an average of 33 hours per week with the same pro rata reduction for part time employees. Annual leave entitlements will reduce in line with the reduction in contracted hours, but the number of weeks of leave will remain the same. You will work your core hours Monday to Thursday with full time staff working a Friday morning on the 4th week.
The four-day week is generally considered to bring benefits which help employees, the organisation, and the climate.
The potential benefits of the trial are improved work-life balance, a happier, healthier & more productive workforce leading to better student outcomes, reduction in employee’s childcare/caring costs and commuting time & cost. The college hopes this trial will boost gender equality in the work force alongside a positive reduction in its carbon footprint, improving air quality and congestion of the local environment.
