Careers & Progression

As a student at Grantham College you will have access to a wide range of Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) throughout your time with us. Experienced staff will enable you to make the most of your time at college and plan your future. It is our aim that all students leaving college at the end of their course will have the skills, attitudes and confidence to plan their future careers and fulfil their potential.

Help is available from choosing the course which best suits you to progression opportunities at the end of course, including moving on to Further or Higher Education, employment or apprenticeships. We offer: 

  • Weekly employability sessions covering topics on CVs, job applications, apprenticeships, interview skills, volunteering, work experience and Higher Education/UCAS
  • Impartial guidance to inform students of all available options
  • The opportunity to explore careers through a wide range of accessible resources: web sites, books, leaflets, posters, news articles, newsletters and Local Labour Market Information.
  • Help with creating and updating your CV
  • Help with choosing what to do after you programme finishes
  • Useful resources in the Careers area of the ‘student information – student version’ Team and in the college library, as well as via the ‘Start’ careers programme and the National Careers Service website
  • Support with UCAS applications
  • Support to increase awareness of and the need for employability skills
  • Opportunity to discuss progression and future Higher Education plans in 1:1 tutor sessions 
  • Visits to institutions and employer guest speakers coming in to college
  • Careers fairs – held at the college annually
  • Skills Assessments

Personal one-to one careers guidance is available for all our learners and potential college students. Our fully qualified and experienced careers practitioner provides impartial advice and guidance, supporting learners in their career planning and helping them make well informed decisions about their progression and future plans.

Our service has achieved the nationally recognised Matrix standard for excellence in the delivery of information, advice and guidance.
