Media

Is a career in the media industry your dream?

The media industry is one that is ever-growing and changing. New and exciting roles are being created all the time.

Media students at Grantham College have access to state-of-the-art and professional media facilities, including an editing suite, which will fully equip you with the skills required to progress in your career.

Our staff possess experience and knowledge in a variety of sectors within the media industry, such as film, recording and editing. You will have the opportunity to access information relevant to your chosen career and gain up-to-date skills.

Students are frequently tasked with live briefs to help gain real-life experience. Previous briefs include creating a film for Grantham Carnival, assisting with recording professional dance productions and directing music videos.

This course presents you with the opportunity to focus on certain aspects of media, such as television or film, and provides you with the tools to progress down your chosen path.

If you are undecided about which subject to take, then our Creative Industries course could be the one for you. This course allows you to pick and choose which 3 subjects you would like to study from: art and design, performing arts, graphic design, photography and/or creative media. You will gain critical knowledge, skills and a certificate in each.

First hands industry experience

During your studies you will have lots of opportunities to develop first hand industry experience. Previously our students have been involved in the production of a trailer for the Chantry Dance company’s new tour ‘The Little Mermaid’.

Our level 3 students have worked on a live photography brief for Grantham train station, aiming to capture the atmosphere and personal interactions of a busy commuters’ station such as ours. They have also been working on a social media project for the Lincolnshire county council, aiming to inspire young people to find work in the diverse industries in Lincolnshire.

We also have a number of professionals visit to talk to our students first-hand about their own experiences. Recently we had a visit from John Coppinger. John was a sculptor, creative designer and creature performer for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Walking with Dinosaurs, Return to Oz and many more films and TV shows. This gave students a real insight into where their studies could take them!
