If you’re looking for a little extra support in the final stretch, check out our Top 10 Revision Tips below to help you stay focused, organised, and exam-ready.
1. Make a Plan
Revision can feel overwhelming if it’s unorganised. Creating a clear plan and timetable helps break everything down into manageable chunks. Staying on top of your schedule reduces stress and makes your study time more effective.
2. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
Your brain needs fuel to perform at its best. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and choose nutritious meals—foods like oily fish, eggs, nuts, and berries are known to support memory and concentration. A healthy breakfast before your exam helps you stay focused and stops hunger from being a distraction.
3. Take Regular Breaks
It might feel like you need to revise non-stop, but breaks are essential. Short, regular pauses help your brain absorb information and keep your energy levels up. Try the Pomodoro technique—25 minutes of study followed by a 5-minute break.
4. Create a Productive Study Space
Make sure your study environment is quiet, tidy, and free from distractions (yes, that includes your phone!). Have all your materials—books, notes, stationery—in one place so you can concentrate fully without interruptions.
5. Use Past Papers
Practising with past exam papers is one of the most effective revision methods. It helps you understand the format, familiarise yourself with the types of questions asked, and manage your timing. Mark your answers to see where you can improve.
6. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is crucial for memory and focus. Aim for 7–9 hours each night, especially in the run-up to exams. A good night’s sleep helps you retain what you’ve revised and keeps you alert during the day.
7. Arrive Early
Give yourself plenty of time on exam day—eat a proper breakfast, check your route, and arrive at the venue with time to spare. Rushing will only add to your stress.
8. Don’t Rush the Exam
Pace yourself. Make sure you read each question carefully, at least twice, to understand exactly what’s being asked. Rushing can lead to careless mistakes—even on questions you know well.
9. Bring Everything You Need
Check the exam guidelines and pack your bag the night before. You’ll usually need pens, pencils, a calculator (if required), and a water bottle (with the label removed). Don’t bring anything not allowed, like mobile phones or smartwatches.
10. Stay Calm
It’s natural to feel nervous, but staying calm helps you think clearly. If you feel anxious, pause, take deep breaths, and focus on one question at a time. You’ve got this!
