Site Foreman

Job Reference: SiteF/07.2026

Salary: This is a part-time role with an actual salary of up to £24,689.75 per annum, and a full-time equivalent salary of up to £26,649 per annum dependent on skills and experience.

Working Hours: 33 hours per week over 4 days, working one in four Friday mornings, 41 weeks per year.

Working Pattern: 07:30- 16:00 Monday – Thursday, 07:30-11:30 every fourth Friday in accordance with the college calendar.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Site Foreman to join our Construction department.

The College have successfully secured funding from the Greater Lincolnshire LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) and have created a multi-million-pound centre of excellence for sustainability and renewable energies. The project transformed our provision with industry-standard workshops, equipment, and digital learning spaces. The Energy Centre allows us to expand our provision and offer new Engineering and Construction courses in electrical installation, plumbing, gas fitting and renewable energies including solar, wind, and air source heating. Together with our Institute of Technology, the Energy Centre marks a flagship investment by Grantham College in training for the jobs of the future.  

The purpose of the role is to be responsible for overseeing daily on-site construction activities, co-ordinating construction technicians and sub-contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to construction site regulations enabling the lecturers to provide teaching and learning.   The Site Foreman serves as a key point of contact between the lecturers, construction technicians, management, health and safety advisor, security and estates, ensuring quality support and compliance with health and safety regulations.

The successful applicant must have:

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in construction or a related trade
  • First Aid at Work certification Or willing to work towards.
  • Ability to work towards deadlines
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Sound knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

The roles main duties include:

  • To direct and supervise construction technicians, tradespeople and subcontractors to enable the Lecturers to provide teaching and learning.
  • To take instruction from management and lecturers and allocate tasks and resources to ensure curriculum support is in place.
  • To work as a team and prepare materials, tools and equipment for student practical work, training and lecture demonstrations.  Please note this will involve lifting and handling.
  • To work as a team and prepare materials for teaching, marketing and administration purposes.
  • Keep all areas clean, tidy and safe to ensure adequate care of health and safety and take immediate action if there is a reason to suppose a safety hazard exists and report the hazard immediately.
  • Monitor practices, productivity and address issues that may impact curriculum support.
  • Conduct daily workshop and site briefings with construction technicians.
  • Facilitate the removal of waste and scrap.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations hazardous and/or inflammable materials and their safe storage.
  • To de-alarm and open the site each day and carry out workshop and site inspections and risk assessments.  
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe working practices.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Ensure workshops are run in accordance with specifications and building regulations.
  • Identify and rectify defects or non-conformance issues of construction tools and equipment.
  • Liaise with college health and safety advisors, estates and security personnel, Managers, engineers, and suppliers.   Including in the false activation of the alarm system.
  • Ensure materials, equipment, and labour are available when required, through following stock checking and purchase ordering procedures
  • Maintain accurate site records, including reports and logs.
  • Record material deliveries and equipment usage.
  • Report progress, challenges, and resource requirements to management.

This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month

Grantham College experience positive benefits from the 4-day week, including improvement to staff wellbeing and morale. We have also seen benefits in terms of reduced staff turnover leading to greater consistency of performance for our students and apprentices. The number of staff sickness absence days has reduced alongside the energy usage for the college and therefore its carbon emissions. We have also seen improvements in key quality indicators such as student attendance and retention and we are confident this will feed through into improved achievement rates and more positive outcomes for our students.
