Vaculug and Grantham College Showcase Successful T Level Partnership for Colleges Week 2026

We’re rounding off #CollegesWeek2026 by emphasising relationships and partnerships colleges have with the world beyond the gates. Grantham College is proud to work with local business Vaculug Limited who host several T Level and Apprenticeship students.

Craig Caithness, Engineering Manager at Vaculug explains how “we got involved with T Levels in Engineering because we committed to future‑proofing the business — and honestly, it just feels like the right thing to do. What really motivates us is the chance to help develop the next generation of engineers with the skills our industry genuinely needs.”  Leon, a T-Level Level 3 Engineering student, has been with Vaculug for his placement with Craig saying how “Vaculug are hopeful that this experience is giving Leon a strong start to his engineering future — and we’re proud to say we’ve already committed to taking him on once his course is complete.”

Leon said his parents hadn’t heard of T Levels, but he found about them and decided to apply because “it was in something I’m passionate about which is engineering and equivalence to A levels.” Vaculug say that as a team, they’re “still learning about T Levels as a qualification, but it’s clear they bridge an important gap for students who need that step between classroom learning and real‑world experience.”

Craig says that for any employers considering T Level students Vaculug would “certainly recommend it, just make sure you do your research and ensure it’s the right fit for both your organisation and the student.” Leon agrees saying that for those considering a T Level, “If you have a strong work ethic and can handle the balance of college work and also placement definitely consider it.”

For Craig one of the biggest highlights so far has been watching Leon grow in confidence. He says how “moving from education into the workplace is a huge leap, and he’s taken it brilliantly. He’s already getting hands‑on with a wide range of engineering tasks, always under close supervision, and it’s been fantastic to see him come out of his shell.”  Leon has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Vaculug; “The team that I work with welcomed me in, supported me and have taught me a lot more practical things which typically you wouldn’t get a college.”
