At Grantham College & University Centre, we are proud to collaborate with Anglian Water to provide top-tier training for their apprentices. As part of our specialised apprenticeship programme, these students develop essential electrical installation skills that align with industry standards, including BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
Recently, our apprentices have been working on lighting circuits and power distribution, a critical aspect of electrical systems in both domestic and industrial environments. Before starting their practical tasks, students engaged in classroom-based sessions covering:
From Theory to Hands-On Application
With a strong foundation in theory, our apprentices then moved into practical workshops, working in purpose-built installation bays to simulate real-world electrical installations. Using PVC conduit systems, they practiced cable management, conduit bending, termination techniques, and safe installation methods.
Each apprentice was responsible for wiring and testing complete circuits, ensuring they developed key problem-solving, accuracy, and compliance skills—essential for their future careers with Anglian Water, where electrical safety and reliability are critical.
Bridging Education and Industry
This apprenticeship programme at Grantham College & University Centre combines classroom learning with practical experience, ensuring that students gain real-world skills to meet the demands of the electrical industry. The ability to interpret wiring diagrams, adhere to safety regulations, and execute professional installations makes these apprentices highly valuable in the workplace.
What sets our training apart is that some of our electrical teaching staff have come directly from industry, bringingfirst-hand expertise, real-world problem-solving skills, and up-to-date industry knowledgeinto the classroom. This ensures that apprentices receive practical, work-ready training that reflects the latest developments in the field.
