The ceremony was celebrated by over 200 people including the award winners, family and friends, staff members of the college and governors.
Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Deane and Vice Principals Claire Temprell and Tracy Scarborough welcomed all award winners to the stage and refreshed everyone’s memories with good news and successes from the past academic year including the official opening of our new Institute of Technology: a state-of-the-art site for Engineering, Computing and Science inside our Historic Stonebridge House. The Local Enterprise Partnership funded our new Energy Centre and Renewable Energy House for Green Technology including solar installation, sustainable power sources, and electric vehicle maintenance. And last month City & Guilds names us as a Centre of Excellence for our Engineering Apprenticeships. It is a really exacting time to be part of Grantham College.
Over 70 course awards were given to students for going above and beyond in their subject area, ranging from Creative Media, Animal Care, Plumbing, Business and Accounting, Access to Higher Education, Construction, Science and much more. Check our Grantham College Courses page for the full list of subjects we offer.
The ultimate award to receive in their awards is the overall student of the year award. This award goes to the individual who has triumphed in the face of adversity and truly given their heart and soul to their time at college. This student started with the Automotive department on the R2E programme and has progressed to completing the Level 3 programme. During the past 4 years he has continually worked hard to improve, and he is now one of the highest performing students within the group. From where he joined the department to where he is now is a tremendous achievement. Our worthy winner of the Overall Student of the Year Award was presented to Alexander Lawrence.
We all know how hard our staff work to ensure the success and enjoyment of the students’ time here at college. This year we presented two awards that were nominated by students to two staff members. These awards are a vote of thanks for all their hard work and efforts throughout the academic year. Early Years Lecturer & Programme Lead for Professional Studies, Emma Marshall won the Lecturer of the Year Award and Learning Support Assistant, Paula Davies won the Support Staff of the Year Award.
Work Experience Placement Employer of the Year Award went to Little Jacks Farm who have gone above and beyond what we would have expected, having taken on more than one student and offering them a quality experience.
Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Award went to BGB Innovation who accommodated apprentices recruiting into 3 different departments in their head office over the last few years. They support and mentoring they offer apprentices, to enable them to progress in their qualifications is exceptional.
The evening concluded with drinks and photos which staff, students, family, and friends all thoroughly enjoyed.
Congratulations to all our award winners and we wish you well whether you are returning to study next year, have gained employment, or taking a gap year.
