On Friday 26th May Grantham college Construction department had a visit from local schools including Walton Academy, The Priory Belvoir Academy, Suthers School and more! The students worked closely with our team to take part in plastering, plumbing, brick, carpentry and joinery practical workshops led by our lecturers to gain real industry experience and learn about the trade.
The students also took part in a campus tour, to see our incredible facilities and learn what it is like to be a student here at Grantham College.
All students received goodie bags containing merchandise and information about the college, preparing them if they’d like to continue their studies here after school, informing them on their options such as apprenticeships, t-levels, full time courses and more.
Jessica Bentley, our curriculum Administration apprentice says;
‘’We were delighted to welcome local schools from Grantham and Newark to our Construction Open Day, which gave Year 10 students an insight into our industry-based environment with experienced and knowledgeable Lecturers. The interactive activities ranged from laying bricks, plastering a wallboard, creating a lap joint in carpentry and pipework in plumbing. This event provided the students with an opposed outlook on Construction, as some of the students never even considered the area as a progression route until having ago at these interactive sessions.
The event was a triumph. This was an outstanding educational opportunity for the students but also for the Lecturers to showcase our true to work life training facilities and make acquaintance with upcoming students. It was rewarding to hear and see the positive involvement, with Lecturers inspiring the students, and students motivating each other.
Thank you to those involved that made this event a success, the Construction team, Support Staff and Marketing.’’
