Building Foundations for the Future!

On Friday 21^st March, we welcomed 60 students from Priory Ruskin Academy and Walton Academy to take part in a series of exciting and immersive Construction based workshops here at Grantham College.

It was a morning of hands-on learning as students all got to have a go at sessions in bricklaying, plastering, plumbing and carpentry. Each session was designed to provide a realistic insight into the skills and techniques required in the construction sector. They also experienced the future of the industry through a cutting-edge virtual reality construction simulation. 

Mr Gunter, SLT at Priory Ruskin said ‘Our students and staff loved the sessions. The staff who delivered the sessions were very welcoming and gave our students plenty of practical experience. A number of our students came away with more ideas on what they wanted to do as a career pathway. A very positive experience for all involved.’

All sessions were led by lecturers, who were on hand to give demonstrations and offer advice and guidance about the courses we offer. The sessions were ably supported by our current students, who gave up their day off to share their knowledge and first-hand experiences of studying and training at Grantham College. 

Sophie, Career Lead at Walton Academy said ‘Our students loved the morning and wished it could last all day (and even longer!). They shared how they felt the Grantham College staff were “really professional, friendly, and open to questions.” Our female students, in particular, appreciated seeing female representation in the plastering workshop, which boosted their confidence in the activities. Every student spoke positively about the chance to try something new and learn hands-on. Each session was highly informative, and the students thoroughly enjoyed every moment of getting involved.’
