Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diploma in Fine Art (Level 5) (Ofs)

Overview

The Level 5 (HND) modules prepare students to move on to specific areas of Fine Art, onto Level 6 at University or to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility, decision-making, problem solving and critical reflection. Students will be able to develop and apply their own ideas to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of Fine Art concepts. Students will work on their professional practice, working with stakeholder and collaborating, project planning and understanding business plans, costings and legislations.

Students who have recently been in education are likely to need:

● a BTEC Level 4 qualification in Art and Design or Media

Course Details

Modules for HND include:

  • B1 Personal Professional Development
  • B2 Professional Project

Throughout the course you will also have the opportunity to visit various UK venues, work on live briefs for employers and develop your skill set on residential Art trips.

  • Printmaking
  • Digital Manipulation
  • Installations
Assessment

The course is 100 percent coursework based.

The delivery of the content is split between guided learning and independent learning, Taught sessions will include:

  • Classroom/ studio-based learning.
  • Work based learning.
  • Lectures and tutorials.

Independent learning is a key component to the course, you will be expected to continue your study outside of taught sessions. This may include:

  • Self-directed research and investigations
  • Reading set texts and other sources of information
  • Watching subject related videos
  • Peer activities, such has group meetings and online discussions.
  • reviewing and recording thoughts on your own learning.
Additional Information

At HE levels you will be required to have your own equipment to work outside of college. There will also be additional costs to attend educational trips for research and locational inspiration. Some materials can be purchased from the college art and design shop.

On successful completion of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, students can develop their careers in the sector through:

  • entering employment
  • continuing existing employment
  • linking with the appropriate professional body
  • committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • progressing onto university
  • practicing as a freelance designer within the creative industry

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant art related courses,
