NCFE Award Creative Crafts (Level 1)

Overview

Unleash your creativity in a friendly, supportive environment. This 21-week evening qualification runs once a week and is ideal for adults aged 19 and above who want to learn new craft skills, explore different materials, and express their creativity.

Course Details

This part-time evening qualification is perfect for adults who want to explore multiple craft disciplines — no prior experience needed. Over 21 weeks, you’ll get hands-on with techniques in metalwork, ceramics, printmaking, and textiles, building your confidence and skills across a range of creative media.

What you’ll learn:

Core craft techniques across clay, metal, print, and fabric work
How to plan, prepare, and execute your creative ideas
Safe and effective use of tools, materials, and equipment
Inspiration from existing craft and art works to spark your own ideas
Research, develop and evaluate you progress through your own sketch book
Ways to display and present your completed pieces to others

Assessment

You will receive feedback from your tutor throughout the course. This will help you understand your progress and the areas you can improve.

Learning will take place through group discussions, one‑to‑one tutorials, and set tasks.

You will also keep a sketchbook during the course. This is where you will record your research, ideas, and notes from both your practical and theory work. It will become a record of your learning and development.

Fees & Funding

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £25,750 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Additional Information

You will need a sketchbook for your theory work and a notebook to take notes during class. You may also choose to buy some of your own materials to help develop your ideas, but this is optional.

You will exhibit your work in the ‘end of year exhibition’ creating a finished textile piece to be proud of - By the end of the course, you’ll have created a personal piece of textile craft and built practical skills to use in future creative work.

Your Next Steps

n successful completion of this course you could progress on to Level 2 BTEC or higher education Art and Design Courses. There are other art courses on offer at College along with short courses in different subjects that may be of interest to you.
