The BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism comprehensive two‑year, full‑time study programme designed for individuals aspiring to build a career within the travel and tourism sector or progress to higher education. This qualifiction is equivalent to three A-Levels.
5 GCSE’s at grade 4/C and above including Maths and English.
Throughout the qualification, students will explore a wide range of industry‑relevant topics. Over the two years, they will complete 13 units, combining both examined and internally assessed components.
Year 1 focuses on building a strong foundation in the industry through two externally assessed units—The World of Travel and Tourism and Global Destinations—alongside four internally assessed units in Marketing and Visitor Attractions, Customer service and Work experience
Year 2 further develops professional knowledge and skills through units in Travel and Tourism Enterprises, Working Overseas, Recruitment and selection, UK Destinations, Managing accommodation, Events, Conferences and exhibitions and Researching Current Trends and Issues within the sector.
This programme provides a balanced mix of theoretical understanding and practical insight, supporting students in developing the skills and confidence needed for future study or employment in this dynamic and globally connected industry.

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.
Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.
Advanced Learning Loan to help with college fees on applicable course. Students won’t have to pay anything back until the end of their course and are earning £27,295 per year. Household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. Eligibility is dependent on course, nationality, and age to meet the ESFA funding eligibility criteria.

Students have the opportunity to enhance their learning through valuable work experience placements and educational visits to a range of travel and tourism organisations. Previous opportunities have included visits to East Midlands Airport, PGL, Alton Towers Careers Day and Belton House, providing real‑world insight into various areas of the industry.
Learners also benefit from engaging talks delivered by industry professionals, including cabin crew, travel agents, business owners specialising in events and marketing, and representatives from the RAF. These experiences support the development of professional knowledge, practical awareness and industry‑relevant skills.
Upon successful completion of the qualification, students are well‑equipped to progress into employment, apprenticeships or higher education. The programme provides a strong foundation for a wide range of career pathways within the travel and tourism sector and beyond, helping learners take confident and informed steps toward their future goals
