Launch Your Creative Journey in Fashion and Textiles at Grantham College. You’ll develop a strong portfolio through a series of live project briefs, building both practical skills and an understanding of the wider fashion context. Your work will be showcased at our end-of-year show, giving you valuable exposure and experience.
5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or a Level 2 Diploma Art and Design (merit).
Throughout the course, you’ll develop valuable transferable skills, becoming more independent and confident in managing your time. You’ll grow as a reflective learner, capable of creative thinking and problem-solving. Life drawing sessions will enhance your figurative drawing skills.
Through set projects, you’ll explore and develop your fashion and textile skills. This includes research to inform ideas for industry-related briefs and building problem-solving abilities through creative challenges. You’ll learn a range of technical skills such as drawing, mixed media, print, surface pattern, dye, stitch, and embellishment. You'll also gain experience working with 2D and 3D materials, methods, and techniques in a safe and professional way, while developing strong communication and professional skills throughout.
You’ll be assessed through practical and written work, marked internally and externally. The projects you complete can be used to build a strong portfolio, helping you stand out in university applications or job interviews by showcasing your skills and creativity.
Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.
Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.
Advanced Learning Loan to help with college fees on applicable course. Students won’t have to pay anything back until the end of their course and are earning £27,295 per year. Household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. Eligibility is dependent on course, nationality, and age to meet the ESFA funding eligibility criteria.

While studying on the Level 3 National Diploma or Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Textiles and Fashion, students will have the opportunity to work on live project briefs for real clients, take part in workshops led by guest lecturers, and complete 30 hours of creative work experience.
A course kit is available for purchase, which includes payment for one educational trip. Students are also expected to supply additional materials for their final projects, especially when using a large quantity of resources to support the successful completion of coursework.
Once all course information is finalised, this form will be saved to the shared web course data folder. When the course code becomes active and is imported into the website, this document will be used to populate the relevant fields.
On successful completeion you will be able to progress onto HE courses which may include Level 4 HNC or Level 5 HND Art & Design practice here at Grantham College or progress onto University courses in the creative industries or enter employment as a Fashion Designer, Textile Designer, Jewellery Designer, Pattern Cutter, Stylist, Costume Designer or Print Designer.
