VTCT NVQ Diploma Beauty Therapy (Level 1)
Overview
The VTCT NVQ Diploma Beauty Therapy (Level 1) is a foundational qualification that equips individuals with the skills to work as an assistant junior beauty therapist in roles such as assisting with manicures, facials, and salon reception duties. This Level 1 qualification is a stepping stone to more advanced Level 2 qualifications and requires a mix of coursework, practical assessments, and examinations for completion.
Am I Ready?
There are no formal entry requirements.
If you're under 19 and do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, it’s compulsory for you to work towards these qualifications while studying for your hairdressing diploma. You will complete Functional Skills English and/or Maths for 1 hour 30 minutes, or GCSE English and/or Maths for 3 hours.
Course Details
The VTCT Skills Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills through the following units:
- improving the appearance of the hands and feet with basic manicure and pedicure services
- cleansing
- toning and moisturising
- and giving advice on skin care, and basic day make-up application.
To further enhance your skills you will also cover artistic and creative elements on your course such as nail art, themed face painting and photographic make-up.
To underpin this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety and you will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the skills required to support you in the beauty therapy industry such as salon reception duties and working with others.
Assessment
Assessment for this course is a mix of practical assessments, exams, and written assignments.
Fees & Funding
Sixteen / Eighteen
Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.
Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.
Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work
Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £25,750 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Additional Information
As part of the course, you’ll have the chance to go on exciting trips and participate in a variety of enrichment activities at Grantham College.
You’ll also need to purchase a beauty uniform from our preferred supplier.
Additionally, you’ll complete 30 hours of work experience, helping you build essential skills and a strong professional portfolio.
