VTCT Diploma Barbering (Full Level 2)

Overview

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed men’s hairdresser.

This qualification allows learners to gather evidence in a realistic working environment. On completion of this qualification you will become a qualified junior men’s hairdresser.

Am I Ready?

Grade requirements- you need two GCSEs at grade F/2 or above plus Level 1 Hairdressing.

Course Details

This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing/barbering and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber/men's stylist.

You must achieve all mandatory units which include: 

  • Advising and consulting with clients 
  • Creating basic outlines and detailing in hair 
  • Cutting facial hair to shape using basic techniques 
  • Cutting men's hair using basic techniques
  • How to shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Drying and finishing men's hair 
  • Using hair tonics 
  • Health, safety and hygiene standards
  • Clipper maintence.

Throughout this qualification, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety.

You will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of cutting and barbering services specifically for men's hair, and creating basic shapes in hair.

Practical Observations. Written Assignments. Oral Questioning. Online Examination.

Fees & Funding

Sixteen / Eighteen

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.

Level 2 / Level 3

Students enrolling onto their first full Level 2 or Level 3 course or below who are aged between 19 and 23 may be able to enrol for free. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £25,750 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Additional Information

As part of the course, you’ll also have the opportunity to go on exciting trips and take part in a variety of enrichment activities at Grantham College.

You’ll also have to complete 30 hours of work experience— building valuable skills and a strong portfolio.

Kit and Uniform - You will need to purchase a kit and uniform before the start of the programme.

Your Next Steps

On successful completion of this qualification you will be able to progress to a Level 3 qualification in Barbering. You will also be eligible to become a graduate State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council and gain employment in the industry or become self-employed as a Barber.
