T-Level Technical Qualification Media, Broadcast and Production (L3)

T Levels are designed to deliver world-class technical education and give you a new choice after GCSEs. The Media T level has been designed with leading businesses and employers in the media industry and gives you:

• A thorough understanding of concepts and theories of the media industry.
• The opportunity to solve real life problems in the media industry.
• Valuable experience of learning from the experts through working side by side with those in the media industry on your industry placement so that you have the chance to learn what this career is like in the real world while you continue your studies.
• Specialist knowledge and skills of the Media Industry, so that you can align yourself to the correct skills needed for a variety of contexts.
• Your T Level will be worth UCAS points – a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A* – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.
• T Levels involve more classroom study than apprenticeships, which means you can experience an industry whilst you continue your studies.

5 GCSE qualifications at Grade 4 and above including Maths and English, this may also include a vocational Ext Cert or Diploma award Distinction at level 2

Previous study in a media subject is not a requirement; however, you should have an interest in the media sector and be prepared to discuss this further at interview

Acceptance onto the course will be subject to meeting further criteria during the enrolment interview, including work placement commitments. 

Throughout this course you will study a range of topics, including Film production, Advertising, Documentary, Visual effects, Motion Graphics and Photography.

Year 1:

1. Core knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts and theories

• Employer set project
• Industry placement

Employer Set Project: A project set by media employers that requires you to apply your knowledge to a real-life problem in the industry.

Industry Placement: You will have the opportunity to put the knowledge and skills you have learned in to action as you start your industry placement. You will work with an external media industry employer to apply your knowledge and develop your technical skills in a real-life media workplace.
 

Year 2:

1. Occupational Specialism in content creation and Production

• Plan, prepare, source and generate media assets
• Assemble, edit, and finalise media assets
• Prepare, package, and deliver edited media assets
• Preserve media assets for future use/revisioning

2. Continuing your industry placement: You will continue to hone the knowledge and skills in the workplace.

Year 1:

• Core Assessment: Externally set test – Paper 1 and 2 are both grades A*-E
• Employer Set Project: Externally assessed project work is graded A*-E
• Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a workplace environment.

Year 2:

• Synoptic assessment to judge how well the competence requirements have been met. Graded: Distinction, Merit, or Pass
• Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a workplace environment.

Sixteen / Eighteen

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.

Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.

T Levels offer many opportunities for progression:

• Progress to University: You can use the UCAS points you achieve as a result of completing your T level to continue your studies at university.
• Enter Employment: You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to start working in the media industry.
• Apprenticeship: There are many opportunities offered through apprenticeships that allow you to carry on learning (20%) whilst spending most of your time (80%) furthering your skills in the workplace.
