This course is suitable for any person wishing to follow a practical direction into construction employment. It gives you the opportunity to build your skills in a range of construction areas.
The course enables you to pick up the skills and knowledge to carry out a range of basic construction tasks such as painting and decorating, joinery and plastering. This course will give you the necessary skills to work on a construction site and be useful from day one. You'll visit trade shows and site visits to help you understand what it'll be like to work on a real construction site. If you complete the course successfully, you will have the opportunity to gain a CSCS card meaning you can work on a building site.
There are no formal entry requirements to take this qualification. This qualification can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications in this subject area.
The learner will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:
-Health, safety and welfare
-Technical information, quantities and communication
-Construction technology
The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:
-Plaster walls
-Apply paint to substrates
-Build a block wall
-Construct woodworking joints
-Fit architrave and skirting
-Tile Walls
-Build a brick wall
-Fit ironmongery to an internal door
-Prepare substrates for painting and decorating
-Develop customer relationships.
The assessment requirements set for this qualification are multiple choice knowledge tests and practical assignments contained within a workbook. Each of the qualification’s knowledge units will be graded pass, merit or distinction.
Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.
