HTQ Edexcel BTEC HND Mechanical Engineering for England (Level 5)

Overview

Do you want to be an electrical engineer? The HND lechanical Engineering course will teach you the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, and mathematics. The HND course is ideal for those who want to progress in the engineering industry and provides a platform for further study or training.

Delivery of the HND will take place at The Institute of Technology at Grantham College via formal lectures and practical workshops/tutorials. Related course materials are available on the colleges ‘MS teams’ channels. The course is taught between 7.5 and 9 hours a week on a day release basis and for each taught hour in the classroom at least one hour of self study will be required. The course runs over 1.5 academic years.

There is a mixture of specialist’s staff delivering the course, with varying industrial, academic and teaching experience. All staff have a BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) degrees in their field of expertise.

Unit 5006: Further Mathematics
Unit 5003: Advanced Mechanical Principles
Unit 5004: Virtual Engineering
Unit 5005: Further Thermodynamics
Unit 5015: Manufacturing Systems Engineering
Unit 5016: Lean Manufacturing
Unit 5023: Thermofluids

Each unit is worth 15 credit, at level 5. To complete the HND qualification to a minimum pass grade a student must have :-

Completed units equivalent to 120 credits at level 5,
Achieved at least a pass in 105 credits at level 5.

Aims of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma:

The Level 5 units prepare students to move on to specific areas of mechanical engineering at Level 6 or to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision making. Students will be able to develop and apply their own ideas to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of engineering situations. By the end of Level 5 study, students will have a sound understanding of the principles in their area of specialist study and will know how to apply those principles more widely in the industry. They will be able to perform effectively in their specialist area.

The course will be assessed mainly by individual written reports (assignments).
