BTEC Diploma Art and Design Skills (Level 2)

Overview

This course is perfect for those with a true passion for art and design, and who are eager to deepen their knowledge and refine their skills in the field.

Am I Ready?

3 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, or equivalent.

Course Details

On this course, you’ll gain an understanding of the work of artists and craftspeople, while developing your own skills in line, colour, and form during practical workshops. You’ll explore new materials and techniques, encouraging you to experiment with and discuss visual language.

You’ll work with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, digital manipulation, clay work, metal work, 3D construction, mixed media, and more.

Alongside your artistic development, you’ll also enhance your professional skills in communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity.

  • Exploring and Developing Art and Design Skills
  • Personal Development
  • Responding to a Creative Brief, specialising in a chosen area of interest
Assessment

Assessment for this course combines practical assignments and a portfolio of your work.

Fees & Funding

Sixteen / Eighteen

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.

Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £25,750 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Additional Information

To study this course, you will need to purchase a range of art equipment, sketchbooks, and a portfolio to keep your work in. The Arts Centre’s on-site shop offers these materials and tools at competitive prices. You will also need to purchase the Art Kit Box from us, which includes the essential equipment to start your course.

Throughout the course, you’ll participate in several day visits to museums and exhibitions, with an average cost of around £30 per visit.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work on live project briefs and complete 30 hours of work experience, gaining valuable, real-world insight into the art and design industry.

Your Next Steps

Upon completing this course, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Art and Design, Graphic Design or Photography courses, further enhancing your skills and career prospects in the creative industry.
