You must first complete the Introduction to GCSE maths course which starts on the 6th September.
This course is designed to enable you to achieve a GCSE qualification. The main topic areas covered are number, algebra, ratio, probability, statistics and geometry. GCSE Maths will be available at two levels, Foundation Tier which goes from grade 1 to grade 5 and Higher Tier, which goes from grade 4 to grade 9.
Students must enrol on the Introduction to GCSE Maths as a prerequisite to enrolling on this course.
16-18 year olds will require Level 3 in GCSE Maths. Mature students (19 years +) will be assessed at the start of the course.
This course is delivered by a variety of methods including teacher led sessions and the use of interactive computer programs. Students will be expected to equip themselves with a scientific calculator and geometry set. Students will be individually counselled by their teacher as to which level will be most appropriate for them. It is anticipated that in order to keep up to date with this course that students will need to complete at least five hours of study per week at home.
The AQA Exam Board Linear Course has three equally weighted external exams in May and June. One exam paper will be non-calculator based and the other two will be calculator based.
Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £25,750 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.
