What to do if your GCSEs aren't what you expect

Results day can be quite nerve-wracking, but we're here to help you through the process

GCSE results day is right around the corner. It is completely natural to feel nervous about discovering your grades, but we just want to remind you: everything will be OK!

Your GCSEs are not what will define you as a student or in your future career. However, if you don’t quite get what you expect on results day, we are open to discuss your options and guide you down the right path on a college course with us.

Here’s some advice from Grantham College to help you feel better about your prospects, just in case you’re worried!

You can always re-sit your GCSEs

Achieving a pass grade in English and maths is the most important result you should be hoping for. Despite this, Grantham College allows students to re-sit the courses free of charge so you have a second chance to achieve the magic pass mark! Our GCSE courses typically take up just a few hours of study each week.

You’ll get the support of our amazing tutors

Our tutors have experience of supporting students who haven’t passed their GCSEs. They’ll advise you how to manage your workload, allowing you to prosper on your new course while securing the pass you need at GCSE level. In addition, you might start your course at a lower level before progressing to help you get up to speed.

There’s no shame in not passing

Remember, there have been thousands of students who have not passed their exams first-time but gone on to have a brilliant time at college. We like to highlight the success stories on this very website! See the ‘Our College’ link above for more details.

You have the opportunity to change course

We allow students to change their course if, in the first few weeks of college, they have had a change of heart. After all, we want you to enjoy your time with us! It’s recommended to not rush into any decision and to check out all of the brilliant courses on our website and in our prospectus.

We’re open all summer to answer any questions

We’re hosting a dedicated open event on August 22 from 3pm to 6pm, but our college is open throughout the summer if you have any urgent enquiries. If you don’t want to wait until 3pm on results day, please don’t hesitate to drop in before!

We wish you all good luck on results day! If you have any questions, please call 01476 400200 to speak to a member of our team.
