New Curriculum Offering for 2015

For over 65 years Grantham College have been offering a wide range of qualifications that have led to fantastic careers for past students including working for British Sky Broadcasting, EMD Serono in America and Leicester Tigers.

Students, have in the past, been able to choose from A Levels including Business, Law, Psychology and Mathematics or vocational courses in an array of curriculum areas such as Engineering, Art & Design, Early Years and Public Services all being taught by industry specialists.

As of September 2015 we are pleased to announce that students applying to Grantham College can now combine academic and vocational courses enabling students to take a different route into University, Higher Education with Grantham College or into their chosen career.

Students can choose three subjects which can be three straight A Levels or BTECs as they have done previously or a combination of the two. Although not a new qualification some students and parents are unaware that 94% of universities accept BTEC qualifications with a triple distinction (DDD) being equivalent to AAA in an A Level subject.

Curriculum Leader for Engineering Colin Kistruck said ‘Students wanting to study the BTEC Level 3 Engineering course can combine it with an A Level such as Mathematics, IT or a Science subject (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Primarily this is to provide students with direct progression to University courses, and can be beneficial in that it underpins the advanced Mathematics/Science needed and helps secure a place on the students chosen course.’

Linda Chapman, Curriculum Leader for Business said’ A BTEC in Business can run alongside a number of other sub-dips as business is a strong underpinning subject with some students aspiring to run their own business. The course can run alongside Travel, Hospitality & Catering, Sport, Hairdressing, Automotive, Construction. For A Levels choices students may want to combine it with ICT, Accounting, Economics or Sport.’

‘There are many progression routes following on from a combination course with Business and due to the flexibility of the skills learnt on the combination of courses students can gain an apprenticeship in a wide range of disciplines including retail, accounts and administration.’

‘Those students who decide to go onto university can use the combination of courses they took with Grantham College to lead to a course in International Business, Business and Marketing or Business Information Technology or may decide to continue their studies with Grantham College on one of their HNC/D Business courses.’

You can also combine a BTEC in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Creative Media Production and Production Arts with a variety of A Levels. Anne-Marie Kerr, Curriculum Leader for Visual Arts comments ‘The options available are designed to offer the student a flexible programme of study that will enable them to progress on to Higher Education and to link vocational training with academic study. The combination of courses will give the student the relevant UCAS tariff scores to allow them to progress on to a range of Higher Education courses if they should wish.’
