Mos Kalbassi has been a part of Grantham College since 1992.
After 26 years as a Governor at Grantham College, Chairman Mos Kalbassi has retired, handing over the baton to Amanda Mosek.
Mos, a Food Technologist and Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, joined the college Board in 1992 when he was a Director of Padley’s Prepared Foods and as a Rotary representative. In his time, he has worked with 4 Principals and served the college in many capacities; notably as Chair of Finance and more recently as Corporation Chairman. He leaves the college having recently appointed a new Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Deane, with the college in a sound financial position, having recently achieved a ‘Good’ grade from Ofsted, a Teaching Excellence Framework Silver Award for Higher Education and launched a new University Centre located in the college’s historic Elsham House.
Mos commented on his time at Grantham College stating: “I joined the College board of governors as a thank you for their great support for all students, including my daughter who enjoyed her time when she did her A Levels there.
“I brought Industry and Rotary experience to the college during turbulent years when funding has been cut year after year. It has been an honour and a privilege to have worked with some of the most dedicated people serving our town. Education and student success is the most important objective in life and thanks to Grantham College and my fellow governors and staff, I have had the opportunity to be part of this success and to see so many learners do well in life because of our College. I shall of course miss it all and wish Amanda all the best for the future.”
At Monday’s Corporation meeting, the governors endorsed the election of Amanda as the new Chair of the Corporation. Amanda lives locally and has 30 years of Further Education and Banking experience. She has previously worked as Deputy Principal at Grantham College and in the last 5 years, held the post of Principal and CEO at Boston College.
Paul Deane paid tribute to Mos stating: “Mos has been a great source of support, encouragement and leadership at Grantham College; not just to myself and the current team, but to previous Principals, governors, management and teaching and support staff. I have been amazed by his energy, dedication and resilience in fighting the cause of our students and staff. Mos cares deeply about Grantham College and the work we do here to inspire students to go on and have great careers and fulfilling lives and the fact he has done so much in a voluntary capacity over so many years is true selfless dedication. We all thank you and wish you the very best.” He also welcomed Amanda: “We are privileged to have someone with Amanda’s great experience of and commitment to Further and Higher Education to take over from Mos as Chair of the Corporation. I know Amanda shares Mos’s passion for the work we all do to inspire students to succeed and Mos can be confident that Grantham College will continue to thrive.”
