Grantham College Institute of Technology (IoT) National Launch Event Activities
The national launch by the Department for Education of Institutes of Technology (IoT) takes place on 08 July 2021. As part of the launch, and in showcasing our own Institute of Technology opening its doors in August 2021, Grantham College is offering two free-to-attend events on the day: Introductions to Robotics and Digital Simulation.
In-College on Thursday 8 July 10am - 12noon in room EG.14: An introductory classroom-based session on Robotics. Exploring principles of robot design styles and operation, learners will be introduced to the basics of programming a robot arm to pick and place, interfacing with objects.
Online via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 8 July 11am - 1pm: An online introduction showcasing how digital simulation is being used in the renewable energy industries. The learners will receive an introductory session on how software is being used in the workplace to develop sustainable building designs, working towards zero net energy, and in building smart grids.

Grantham College’s Institute of Technology (IoT), which opens in August 2021, will see the historic grade II-listed Stonebridge House converted into a state-of-the-art Engineering and Digital Skills hub. As part of the Lincolnshire IoT partnership #LIoT, Grantham College has received £2.6m of funding from the Department for Education to fund the building project as well as industry-standard specialist learning equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, and robotic arms. The IoT project will restore Stonebridge House back to its former glory and make it a cutting-edge facility. Grantham College has a strong background in Engineering, and welcomes the opportunity via the IoT to fill skills gaps in local industries. Right on your doorstep: a brand new multi-million-pound facility to train in higher level Computing, Digital Technologies, Engineering (Manufacturing, Electrical, and Mechanical) courses and exciting new apprenticeships in Automation, and Software Development.
