Grantham and Stamford faced off in series of mini tournaments
Students from Grantham College and New College Stamford competed in a range of sports and close-fought competitions, with some participants taking multiple trophies home.
In basketball, Grantham’s teams finished third and fourth despite making a good account of themselves. In football, teams from Grantham finished third and second – missing out on top spot after a penalty shoot-out.
Table tennis, one of Grantham’s specialist fields, was dominated by the college. Trafford Mason dominated the male tournament by winning every game, while Katie Hitchcock took the female prize after a best-of-three final match.
Katie also won the female badminton competition, defeating her opponent from Stamford in a best-of-five match.
In the male’s badminton, Grantham students finished third and fifth.
Tom Clayton, sports lecturer at Grantham College, said: “The day was well organised and a good way for both Colleges to interact and share good ideas between each other.
“Lecturers from both colleges have a good relationship and are keen to make this tournament a regular occurrence.”
