Grantham College Student Jacob Hoyes selected as the CIPHE Student of the Year for Grantham

Jacob Hoyes, Plumbing and Heating Apprentice student has been selected as the CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering) Student of the Year for Grantham.

The CIPHE is a professional body that promotes professionalism and quality within the plumbing and heating industry. Jacob was chosen out of many other candidates from local colleges due to his drive and determination throughout the first year of his Apprenticeship. Jacob attended the Awards Ceremony with his parents and his employer, KBR Gas where he was awarded with a trophy, plaque and a range of plumbing tools.

“Jacob is a driven, determined apprentice who has expressed enthusiasm and commitment throughout the course of his Apprenticeship. Jacob has demonstrated the qualities, both personal and professional, required to succeed in this industry. This was a well-deserved achievement, for somebody who is a great representative of Grantham College. As a department, we look forward to continuing our work with both Jacob and his employer, KBR Gas” said Jamie Moore, Apprenticeship Advisor.

Jacob joined Grantham College in 2012 as a school leaver and completed various Plumbing & Heating courses before enrolling onto the Apprenticeship scheme. “I struggled in school academically and was told that I wouldn’t get very far. I wanted to learn a trade and do something more practical as I was better with working with my hands. The apprentice course has been an eye opener as it is more hands on compared to just sitting in the classroom and you’re earning money from the start,” said Jacob.

After the completion of his course Jacob hopes gain more experience and aspires to have his own business in the future to help young individuals discover their full potential.
