Construction students get real life experience

Construction students visit CITB HQ

Earlier this week our Construction students took part in a day at the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) headquarters at Bircham Newton, Norfolk. The centre specialises in Plant Maintenance and Plant Operations.

Our students were kindly shown round around the large facility and had the chance to use the centre’s state of the art simulators that are used to train apprentices and trainees in a wide-range of plant machinery, including excavators, tower cranes, crawler dozers, tele handlers, tractors and dumper trucks.

Students were also given the opportunity to drive and operate real 360 excavators, for many, their first experience behind the wheel of large plant machinery.

Both Carpentry and Brickwork students were in attendance and the day was a great success. Thank you to all the staff from Bircham Newton that made all of our students welcome and gave them an array of useful knowledge regarding the use of Plant Operations and short courses available to students to improve their career prospects within Construction. Thanks also go to LiNCHigher for funding the trip.
