Bricklaying Apprentices performed well in the annual SkillBuild competition in April, hosted by Vision West Nottinghamshire College.

SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the country. Kieran Joynes and Ryan Thorpe both competed.

Ryan, our senior entrant, approached his wall with confidence and produced high quality polychromatic decorative panels, that included projected bonding and circular work. This particular wall required Ryan to demonstrate strong analytical
and geometric skills in the setting out process.

Kieran, our junior entrant, produced a piece of decorative brickwork with precision and care, which included attached piers, soldier work and brick-on-edge bonding. As a result of Kieran’s hard work, he was awarded second place in the
New Entrant’s category, out of 11 colleges in total.

Both competitors adjusted to the new working environment and each performed extremely well.

A massive well done to Kieran and Ryan, who were both fantastic representatives of the Construction Department and Grantham College.
