A new way of celebrating student awards

Hard work hasn't gone unnoticed

Despite the trials and tribulations of COVID-19, staff at Grantham College were adamant that the hard work of students would not go unnoticed. Every year, the marketing team hosts a celebration evening to congratulate the award winners. Sponsors get on board, VIPs and guest speakers attend to motivate and inspire, and awards are presented with pride, however 2020 had other plans for us all.

Students are nominated for by staff members for overcoming challenging times, for working particularly hard or for achieving even better things than they had hoped for at the start of the year.

This year saw Jack Godson take Student of the Year after being nominated by Head of Curriculum for Engineering, Theresa Cope. Theresa comments of Jacks achievements: “Jack has been an outstanding student throughout the year, producing work to the highest standard. He is always willing to help other students who need support and never misses a deadline.”

Among students, three employers also take home awards for offering high quality placements and going above and beyond while working with the College and its students. Moy Park won Business Development Employer of the Year, SourceCloud took home Industry Placement Provider of the Year and Engineering firm BGB Innovation were crowned winners of Work Experience Placement Provider of the Year.

Breeze Rowlands of BGB Innovation who worked closely with the students they took on for a work experience placement is thrilled with the award: “Placements allow BGB’s behaviours to shine, they are the foundation that underpin everything we do, this award demonstrates our value ‘in your shoes’ we are able to allow hands on engineering experience in a safe environment. We make their time onsite interesting & enjoyable, providing advice and inspiring the next generation. We are proud to be recognised for this.”

Employers have been presented with a certificate and a trophy to thank them for their contribution towards students’ futures. Student award winners have received a certificate and a Love2Shop voucher.

Principal & Chief Executive, Paul Deane has congratulated all award winners and thanked them for their hard work through particularly challenging times via a short video clip which can be found on the Grantham College website and social media channels.

Grantham College thanks Ruddocks for providing the printing and sincere thanks also go to all other sponsors: RAF Wittering, Anglian Water, LiNCHigher, Great Space Media Group and Bishop Grosseteste University.
