At Grantham College, our SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) learners have been working on a truly inspiring project—creating their very own Sensory Garden. Through creativity, teamwork, and a passion for nature, they’ve already made an impressive start. Now, they’re reaching out to the community for support to bring their vision fully to life.
As part of the project, learners have explored what makes a sensory garden special. They researched key features and created a beautiful display of their ideas. They’ve made eco-friendly bug houses, wind chimes, and bird feeders from recycled materials and transformed a small raised bed into a mini sensory space.
The project has helped learners understand how the five senses can be engaged through nature and they have worked very hard to make the areas around the college more environmentally friendly, while encouraging wildlife and making the college look more pleasing to the eye.
We are really proud and pleased with what they have achieved so far. They now dream of building a larger, fully accessible garden — just for them!
We have a grassy space near the SEND provision, measuring approximately 10m x 7m, that we’d love to transform into their very own sensory retreat. The vision includes:
We then hope to add garden sensory objects and features that will make the garden a unique, engaging space that they can be truly proud of.

To make this dream a reality, we need support from friends of Grantham College—like you!

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference in creating a space that brings joy and enrichment to our SEND learners for years to come.
