The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is aimed at 16-18 year old and 19+ learners in full – time education who wish to pursue a career as a hairdresser /stylist.
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, it is compulsory for you to work towards these qualifications whilst studying for your hairdressing qualification. These will require you to attend, 1 hour 30 minutes per week for each Functional Skills and 3 hours for each GCSE, if required. You will also attend 30 hours of work experience.
Completion of Level 1 Hairdressing or equivalent. You also need 2 GCSEs at grade F/2 or above.

Seven on–line multiple choice examinations, externally set and externally marked. Practical continual assessments externally set and internally marked. Subject related oral questions. 2 assignments internally marked. Portfolio of evidence internally set and internally marked which includes eleven individual workbooks relating to the different topics within hairdressing.
Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable. Students enrolling onto their first full Level 2 or Level 3 course or below who are aged between 19 and 23 may be able to enrol for free. Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £18,525.00 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This course focuses on the development of the principles and practical skills in the hairdressing industry. It is designed to deliver occupational capability and provide a sound platform from which to prepare for employment as a stylist within the hairdressing industry. Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by progressing onto the VTCT Level 3 Technical Level or the Extended Diploma in Hairdressing or level 2 Certificate in barbering.
