Site Carpentry Apprenticeship Standard (Level 2)

Overview

This course is ideal for those who wish to work as a Site Carpenter & Joiner in the construction sector. The course has been designed to help you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry & Joinery level 2 The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations – Carpentry &Joinery Site qualification that you will complete has been developed for achievement in a real workplace environment which means you need to be employed to undertake this qualification. This qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work as a Site Carpenter & Joiner within the construction industry.

Am I Ready?

There are no formal entry requirements to take this qualification. This qualification can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications in this subject area. Apprentices must complete or have previously completed recognised English and Mathematics level 1 qualifications and be working towards a level 2 in both subjects during their apprenticeship.

Course Details

This qualification covers all the main skills and knowledge you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work as a Site Carpenter & Joiner. The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these: Mandatory units: Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace Optional Units: The learner must achieve a minimum of 52 credits from the units in this group. Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace (20 credits) Installing Fire Resisting Timber Door Assemblies and Doorsets in the Workplace (69 credits) Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace(18 credits) Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace(23 credits) Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace(14 credits) Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in theWorkplace(24 credits)

Assessment

Assessment will take place both during and at the end of the Apprenticeship (EPA), with completion being dependant on successful achievement of the qualification elements and the endorsement of the employer after a professional discussion, with the apprentice training provider (Grantham College) You will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you complete your qualification. You will be required to produce an Electronic Portfolio of Evidence showing how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit required within the qualification, as directed by your assessor. This qualification is not graded. (Just Pass or Fail)

Your Next Steps

On completion of this Standard you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding and demonstrated competence to progress on to advanced Apprenticeship standard in the same or similar occupational area or enable entry into supervisory and management positions within the workplace. Industry will accept the qualification on its own as entry to a job role. The achievement of this standard will meet the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) ‘Skilled Worker’ standard in Carpentry & Joinery, or secure employment as a Site Carpenter.
