Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship Standard (Level 3)

Overview

This four year apprenticeship is aimed at new technicians entering the Plumbing and Domestic Heating industry who wish to be trained in the skills and knowledge associated with plumbing and heating systems. This new trailblazer apprenticeship will provide the knowledge, skills and core behaviours on the aspects of plumbing and heating systems.

Am I Ready?

There are no specific entry requirements, entry requirements will be determined by individual employers. Typically, apprentices will have English and mathematics at level 2 on entry, and all will have achieved that level prior to taking their end-point assessment.

Course Details

The apprenticeship in Plumbing and Domestic Heating gives you the skills and knowledge associated with plumbing and heating systems. This includes accurate measuring, marking, cutting, bending and jointing metallic and non-metallic pipework. Appliances and equipment can include gas, oil and solid fuel boilers as well as pumps, heat emitters, bathroom furniture or controls as part of a cold water, hot water and central heating or above ground drainage and rainwater systems. • Supervisory skills In addition to the core skills and knowledge requirements you will choose and undertake one of the following specialisms:
• Fossil fuel – Natural Gas
• Fossil Fuel – Oil
• Fossil Fuel – Solid Fuel
• Environmental Technologies

Assessment

Assessment will take place both during and at the end of the Apprenticeship (EPA), with completion being dependant on successful achievement of all the elements and the endorsement of the employer after a professional discussion, with the apprentice training provider (Grantham College). A portfolio of evidence to underpin the knowledge required for oral questioning during the EPA. The EPA is graded pass, fail, merit or distinction Pass or Fail) after the completion of a knowledge multiple choice test, practical installation test, design project, practical application test and professional discussion.
