This Level 1 distance learning programme is focused on providing the learner with underpinning knowledge so introducing them to working within a retail environment. This qualification is knowledge-based, and covers the principles of retail. It is aimed at students who are new to Retail and have limited or no prior knowledge of working in the industry.
This programme is suitable for students who may be seeking employment in the retail industry, or those already in the work place who lack recognised qualifications.
Access to a laptop/technology is required to complete this course and submit the evidence electronically although students can complete paper copies of the workbooks if this is not accessible to them.
There are no formal entry requirements however learners should be aged 19 or above at the start of the academic year to undertake this qualification. Learners must be able to read and understand the learning resources and complete the written work with moderate assistance and will therefore benefit from having a reasonable understanding of reading and writing the English language. YOU CAN START THIS COURSE AT ANY TIME THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR BUT THERE IS AN EXPECTATION THAT YOU WILL COMPLETE WITHIN TWELVE WEEKS. FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE WILL INCUR A £50 ADMINISTRATION CHARGE.
The course is delivered over an 12 week period. During the 12 week period, the student will be expected to complete the 7 workbooks to a satisfactory standard, in their own time. Additional tutor support is provided for the duration of the course via email, telephone, text message and post.

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.
