NCFE Certificate Understanding Nutrition and Health (Level 2)

Overview

This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners with some existing knowledge of this area who are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and health.  This qualification aims to increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health,  increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet, provide an understanding of how an individual’s dietary requirements change throughout their life, provide an understanding of food labelling and the ability to use information from food labels, provide information on eating disorders, increase understanding of the role of a healthy diet for weight management and increase understanding of the principles of food safety in a home environment.

Am I Ready?

There are no formal entry requirements however learners should be aged 19 or above at the start of the academic year to undertake this qualification.  Learners must be able to read and understand the learning resources and complete the written work with moderate assistance and will therefore benefit from having a reasonable understanding of reading and writing the English language. Course Details

YOU CAN START THIS COURSE AT ANY TIME THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR BUT THERE IS AN EXPECTATION THAT YOU WILL COMPLETE WITHIN TWELVE WEEKS.  FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE WILL INCUR A £50 ADMINISTRATION CHARGE.

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health, learners are required to successfully complete 6 mandatory units covered in three modules:

• Explore principles of healthy eating
• Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
• Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
• The principles of weight management
• Understanding eating disorders
• Principles of food safety for the home environment

Assessment

Learning materials comprise a set of high-quality workbooks, which have been produced to suit a range of delivery methods. These materials have been officially endorsed by the relevant awarding organisation as fit for purpose. Learners will be provided with all the necessary materials to complete the programme and will have the opportunity to work through a series of reflective activities designed to reinforce the learning process. The learning materials also include an assessment.

Fees & Funding

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.
