NCFE Certificate Understanding Autism (Level 2)

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support individuals with autism. It’s useful for learners who provide direct support and those working in sectors such as: • healthcare • social care • leisure • entertainment • education and training • nursing.

There are no formal entry requirements however learners should be aged 19 or above at the start of the academic year to undertake this qualification.  Learners must be able to read and understand the learning resources and complete the written work with moderate assistance and will therefore benefit from having a reasonable understanding of reading and writing the English language. YOU CAN START THIS COURSE AT ANY TIME THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR BUT THERE IS AN EXPECTATION THAT YOU WILL COMPLETE WITHIN TWELVE WEEKS.  FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE WILL INCUR A £50 ADMINISTRATION CHARGE.

There are three modules on this course covering the following topics:

• Introduction to autism • Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism

• Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism

• Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism

• Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism

• Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

The learning materials comprise a set of high-quality knowledge workbooks that are designed to suit a range of delivery methods. Within these workbooks, learners have the opportunity to work through a series of reflective activities that are designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge. The materials also include assessment booklets that allow learners to complete a portfolio of evidence and demonstrate their achievement of all the learning outcomes associated with each unit.

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

By undertaking this programme, learners will be able to further their own continuous professional development, which may improve their career prospects. Learners may then wish to progress on to further qualifications, such as other courses in education or health and social care related subjects.
