IMI Diploma Automotive Maintenance (Level 1)

Overview

The level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance is an ideal course for those learners who wish to develop experience in a variety of automotive industry sectors, at a level suitable for their ability. It also provides a good knowledge base for those students who wish to progress onto level 2 or an apprenticeship within the automotive industry.

Am I Ready?

2 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above. Other qualifications may be considered.

Course Details

Within the diploma the students will be expected to complete 11 units from the list below: Unit L1AM01 – Health and Safety in the Workplace, Unit L1AM02 – Tools, Equipment and consumable Materials for Vehicle Maintenance, Unit L1AM03 – Engine Operation and components, Unit L1AM04 – Lubrication System Components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM05 – Engine Cooling system components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM06 – Spark Ignition System components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM07 – Spark Ignition Engine Fuel System components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM08 – compression Ignition Engine Fuel System components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM09 – Exhaust System Components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM10 – Steering System components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM11 – Suspension System components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM12 – Braking system Components and Maintenance, Unit L1AM13 – Wheel and Tyre Construction and Maintenance, Unit L1AM14 – Vehicle Transmission System components and Maintenance and Unit L1AM15 – Vehicle Electrical Circuits and Components.

Assessment

The assessment methods will predominantly be practically based where the performance to complete selected tasks will be assessed on a pass or fail basis. There will also be self-directed study, where students will be asked to complete a variety of written tasks. To complete the course all learning outcomes must be completed and passed. There will also be the completion of an online assessment which covers all the mandatory units.

Fees & Funding

Sixteen / Eighteen

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.</p.

Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Your Next Steps

On successful completion of the Level 1 there is an opportunity to progress to the Level 2 qualification with the IMI or gain an apprenticeship within the motor vehicle sector.
