Hairdressing Apprenticeship Standard (Level 3)

Overview

This course is ideal for those who wish to become a senior stylist, Salon Manager/Owner, work in Hairdressing Education or Training or maybe doing session styling Etc. The course has been designed to help you to learn, develop and practice the advanced skills required in employment and/or career progression within the Hairdressing industry.

The standard has been developed for achievement in a real workplace environment which means you have a full understanding of Values, Behaviour’s, Skills and Knowledge to become a fully trained professional within your chosen industry of Hairdressing.

Am I Ready?

To do this course you will need a recognized Level 2 Qualification in Hairdressing. Apprentices must have secured employment in the sector or be working in a realistic working environment. You must have previously completed a recognized English and Mathematics Qualification, either relevant GCSE or Level 1 Functional skills. To complete the Level 3 Hairdressing standard a minimum Level 2 Functional skill is required in both Math’s and English during the Level 3 apprenticeship.(provided relevant GCSE hasn’t already been achieved) without this the course won’t be achieved or certification gained.

Course Details

Mandatory Units; Creative Restyles Creative Styling and Dressing of Hair Colour Correction Smoothing and Straightening Consultation Services Use Fashion Trends in Hair to create a Collection of Hairstyles. Evolve Online Testing will need to be carried out for each unit to show underpinning knowledge of each unit, and assignment work. Once the mandatory units are completed creating a portfolio and Functional Skills obtained to a level 2 in Maths and English (if required) an EPA – End Point Assessment will take place . This will involve – A Precision Cut and Finish and A Colour Conversion observation by an Independent End point Assessor A 40 Question online multiple choice knowledge test and a 45 minute professional discussion.

Assessment

Assessment will take place both during and at the end of the Apprenticeship (EPA). Completion will be dependent on the successful achievement of all the mandatory elements and the endorsement of the employer after a professional discussion with the apprentice training provider (Grantham College). A portfolio of evidence will need to be completed to evidence the underpinning knowledge required to achieve the oral questioning during the EPA. The EPA is graded pass, fail or distinction after the completion of the knowledge test, skills test and oral questioning.

There are fantastic opportunities for Hairstylists such as working as a stylist in a salon, becoming a session stylist, working on cruise ships, owning your own salon, teaching and training, the opportunities are endless or even freelance whatever suits your lifestyle and ambition there is something for everyone. Your Next Steps

On completion of this Standard you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding and demonstrated competence to enable entry into an advanced/senior role within the industry including supervisory or management positions within the workplace including those in education or Training.
