The Engineering Fitter standard is a course that is tailored with your employer to meet the knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to your job role.
It is advisable that you have GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English Language, Maths and Science. You will also have to have a pre-assessment by the College with you and your employer to ensure that you will be able to meet the requirement for the standard.
The mandatory qualification attached to this standard, means that the apprentices will have the opportunity to experience electrical, mechanical and electronic aspects, that will enhance their ability to adapt to the changing world of engineering. The qualification has a series of mandatory units and a number of optional units. The apprentices will study a wide range of subjects relevant to their role within the workplace ranging from, Applied science and maths for engineering, Health & safety in the engineering workplace, Communication and teamwork in engineering, to list just the mandatory units.
The standard has a mandatory qualification attached, which will be internally and externally assessed. The apprenticeship assessment will take place both during and at the end of the apprenticeship (EPA), with completion being dependant on successful achievement of all the elements and the endorsement of the employer after a professional discussion, with the apprentice training provider (Grantham College). A portfolio of evidence to underpin the knowledge required for oral questioning during the EPA. The EPA is graded pass, fail or distinction after the completion of a knowledge test, skills test and oral questioning.
On successful completion of the level 3 apprenticeship there is potential opportunity to move into a higher-level apprenticeship which would incorporated the HNC Engineering course offered here at Grantham College. There is potential opportunity to move into employment in the engineering sector.
