This qualification in Sports Coaching and Exercise Science is designed to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of those interested in sport, sports coaching and sports development. The course will apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, explore how barriers to participation can affect performance and how initiatives are designed to widen participation. It will also provide opportunities to develop and deliver coaching sessions which will meet the needs of sports performers regardless of age or ability. There will also be opportunities for industry validated qualifications. Whilst studying on this course you may have the opportunity to study a Higher Education course with the Football Centre of Excellence. The HNC will be awarded on successful completion of 120 credits and the HND on the achievement of 240 credits. The units for this programme have been selected to offer a broad and balanced spectrum of the sports industry within the 21st century.
A minimum of 48 UCAS points from a Level 3 programme. You will also require grade C/4 or above in GCSE maths and English or a Level 2 equivalent.
You will also need a qualification in a relevant level 4 (HNC) programme where units can be evidence to show prior learning. You will be required to attend an interview prior to acceptance where you will be expected to provide a reference.
The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport & Exercise Science is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the Sport & Exercise Science sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.

The qualificaition is classroom and workshop delivery with supplementary resources and activities on Microsoft Teams. The qualification is 12 months with 10 taught contact hours and an expectation of 6 self study hours.
All staff delivering the course have longstanding specialist subject experience and up-to-date knowledge of industry practices.
Assessment will be carried out for each unit studied through a variety of methods including written assignments, research projects, presentations, and practicals.
The Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma provides a solid grounding in Sport and exercise Science for Sports Organisations at Level 5. Students can build on these should they decide to continue their studies beyond the HND stage. Students will be able to progress to a registered University for a ‘top up’ year to obtain a full Bsc Hons degree in their selected area.
You will also be able to progress into full time employment in the field of sport and exercise science and coaching pathways with the experience you have gained.
