C&G 7682-10 NVQ Certificate PEO (Engineering Practices) (Level 1)

Overview

This course is suitable for learners who are just starting out in their engineering career and require a broad range of competencies to enable safe progression to higher level engineering qualifications or into the workplace.

Am I Ready?

2 x GCSEs Grade 2 or above and must include maths and English Grade 2.

Course Details

This is a practical based course which will be based and taught in the engineering workshop at the college. The course will include the following mandatory units: • Unit 201 Working safely in an engineering environment • Unit 102 Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively • Unit 103 Using and communicating technical information In addition to this you will also study a range of optional units including: • Unit 104 Making Components using hand fitting techniques • Unit 107 Using Lathes for Turning Operations • Unit 108 Using Milling Machine There is also opportunity to study further PEO units to achieve the full qualification which are also relevant to the engineering sector.

Assessment

Learners will be supported within a sheltered environment to undertake the practical application of the theoretical knowledge for the associated units. Learners must have a completed portfolio of evidence for each unit which will be assessed within the college and include both knowledge and practical skills assessed by a qualified assessor. Fees & Funding

Sixteen / Eighteen

Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.</p.

Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government.

Low Income / Unemployed Seeking Work

Students that are unemployed and currently seeking work, or on a low income of up to £20,319 per annum may be able to enrol to a course at Level 2 or below free of charge. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Grantham College reserves the right to offer a substitute course if the qualification advertised is not funded by the government. This does not affect your rights under Consumer Law.

Additional Information

Learners will need to provide their own overalls and safety boots to BSE standard. One pair of safety glasses will be provided free of charge however you will need to purchase an additional pair if you lose or forget your glasses.

If you wear prescription glasses you will need to purchase your own prescription eye wear, however you may get support from student bursary with PPE (please enquire at the college).

**Please note that you will not be allowed to undertake this course without the appropriate PPE.

Your Next Steps

The qualification allows learners to progress into employment or onto the following City & Guilds qualifications: • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.
