Overview

The course is designed to support you in preparing or starting in a teaching role in post-compulsory education, enhancing your knowledge and your professional practice in the workplace.

Am I Ready?

This qualification is for adult learners 19+.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but candidates must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve/or have achieved a qualification and/or have experience in their subject/skill at the appropriate level. It is recommended that candidates already hold a level 2 qualification in English and maths and are ICT literate.

Course Details

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector.

The Award contains 3 components (12 credits) on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) 

The units covered are:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training sector: 3 credits
  • Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training: 6 credits
  • Understanding assessment in education and training: 3 credits
  • Facilitate learning and development for individuals (Learning and Development unit): 6 credits
  • Facilitate learning and development in groups (Learning and Development unit): 6 credits
  • Understanding assessment in education and training: 3 credits
  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (Learning and Development unit): 3 credits.

 

Assessment

The qualification will be assessed by a combination of assignments and observation of teaching or training. \

There is a minimum requirement for trainee teachers to engage in observed and assessed microteaching for the unit 302, understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training. For this unit, trainee teachers/trainers must be involved in at least one hour of microteaching.

Your Next Steps

You can progress to the Certificate Level 4 then the Diploma Level 5 in Education and Training or become a tutor, lecturer or assessor.
