The Health and Social Care Sector combines two core sub-sectors.

The new Pearson BTEC qualifications for first teaching at Grantham College in September 2017 comprises a suite of Health and Social Care courses all with an academic rather than practical content. These qualifications have all been designed with input from employers, teachers and higher education institutions for young people planning to progress to degrees such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work or therapeutic professions like Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
Students need 5 GCSEs grade A-C/9-4 to include English Language, maths and preferably science. Level 2 qualifications can be considered as part of GCSE equivalency for entry except for English.
The qualification consists of 4 mandatory units:
Two of these modules are assessed by exams or other types of external assessment. In addition, students will undertake a further 2 units of study which will be assessed internally through written assignments. Plus additional modules to allow top up to Extended Diploma if desired in September of the following year.
3 modules of the eight modules you will study are assessed by exams or other types of external assessment. The others are assessed mainly by internal assignments.
Full Time Further Education courses are free to school leavers and those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply as applicable.</p.

Students enrolling onto their first full Level 2 or Level 3 course or below who are aged between 19 and 23 may be able to enrol for free. This is a government initiative and the course offer is subject to change. Advanced Learning Loan to help with college fees on applicable course. Students won’t have to pay anything back until the end of their course and are earning £27,295 per year. Household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. Eligibility is dependent on course, nationality, and age to meet the ESFA funding eligibility criteria.
All students on this qualifications will have to undertake sector relevant work experience and will therefore need to have a clear DBS record. Prospective students will need to pay for this and the cost is currently £40 (correct at time of publishing)
Study at Higher Education, however an additional A’level equivalent will be needed to access degrees such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work or therapeutic professions like Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
Progression into work following the programme of study is possible but further qualifications will have to be undertaken in the workplace.
