Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Standard (Level 2)

Overview

At Grantham College we will equip an Apprentice to meet the requirements of the Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Standard. An accounts/finance assistant is responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business, assisting the team with junior accounting duties. Their work will include basic book keeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers and running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct.

Am I Ready?

Individual employers will set the selection criteria, which is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English or equivalent. Apprentices without Level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and have taken the test for level 2 prior to taking their end point assessment.

Course Details

Off the Job Training 2020/21: Apprentices are required to complete 20% of their contracted hours in Off the Job Training. They will be required to attend the AAT 2 class at Grantham College one day a week to include a weekly one hour portfolio session prior to their AAT class. The remaining OTJT training will need to take place in the workplace. It is expected that this apprenticeship will take between 12 and 14 months to complete.

Assessment

When the Apprentice has reached the standard required, they will be put forward for the End Point Assessment which consists of two elements: 1. Structured interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary): The structured interview must last for 60 minutes. The structured interview will focus on the portfolio completed by the apprentice during the on programme phase of the Apprenticeship 2. In-tray test: The test provides for an in-tray exercise based on a fictitious organisation’s scenario, which replicates the typical work an Accounts/Finance Assistant will have to manage in a workplace.
