Grantham College Carpentry students succeed at The Institute of Carpenters 41st Merlane Trophy Competition.

The annual competition is open to carpentry and joinery students under the age of 24 from colleges throughout the East Midlands region and is held at the Vision West Nottinghamshire College.

After an extremely close competition where the practical skills were to a very high standard, Martins Susters (L2 Student in grey top) who won the competition last year, picked up second place and Tom Crosby (L1 Student in white top) gained third place. Both competitors won a cash prize as well as a range of power tools and hand tools donated to the competition.

“I am extremely proud of both students who performed exceptionally on the day. They are a credit to the Carpentry department and show our consistency in maintaining the highest quality and standards. I would also like to thank all staff involved in preparing for the competition,” said Richard Parkhill, Carpentry & Joiner Lecturer.
